So I'm looking at replacing this oscillator circuit in an old Yamaha converter (it's their own proprietary chip, so I can't find any info or datasheets for it).

Connected to "EXTAL" and "XTAL."
A quick Google search got me a few images like this one, which seems to suggest there's an inverter between those two pins.

So provided XTAL is at the output of the inverter, as per your instructions, is this the point at which I should inject the new clock signal (in addition to shorting EXTAL to ground)?

I think you would inject external clock into EXTAL, leave XTAL open, and remove the crystal, resistor and two capacitors. Then find a 6.144MHz oscillator with good jitter/phase noise performance, that could be soldered to the ο1 board.

This is all I could find for that value with decent specs, and it says phase jitter (RMS) is 1ps: https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/96/0 ... 786357.pdf

Package is big(ger than most), but I could probably bend the leads in.
