ISP change for amb.org on Jan 22, 2020

Postby amb » January 10th, 2020, 11:46 am

Hi all, amb.org will be changing to a different ISP on January 22, 2020. This should greatly increase the speed and hopefully improved network reliability. During that day (and maybe a day or two after), connectivity to amb.org may be interrupted while our new DNS and IP addresses propagate through the rest of the internet. This will impact web, email, ftp and other services.

Just a heads up...

P.S. The new ISP is significantly more expensive than the old. So help me keep amb.org online by buying stuff from AMB audio shop! :)

Just a reminder that amb.org will undergo a change in its internet service provider in approximately 12 hours as of this writing. This will impact our internet presence for several hours to up to a day or two.

amb.org should be back up for most people. The new DNS information should have propagated all the way around the world now. Let me know if you notice anything wrong.

East coast feels a faster speed now. Couldn't access it before.

ISP change for amb.org on Jan 22, 2020

Yes, our connection to the internet is now 12-24x the speed of the prior service.

While the amb.org servers are paragons of reliability and uptime, the same cannot be said about the previous ISP. After several major unplanned downtime events that took a long time for them to fix (involving two companies kicking the ball back and forth), and the slow speed that seemed to get worse, I’ve had enough.

I broke my contract with the old ISP to change to the new one, which means I have to pay for 6 months of service that will go unused. Ouch, but the new, dramatically faster speed (and hopefully reliability) makes it worthwhile.

I had to shut down the new network equipment temporarily to move them to their proper place and to change their power source from raw AC mains to a battery backed up UPS. The downtime was between 3:43am and 4:43am today. Hopefully that didn't inconvenience anyone.
