Initial check issues

Postby patchoncas » January 13th, 2014, 5:47 pm

Hi everyone.
1st: regarding the AC adapter, I am reading 8.70V at the output, while the guide says between 8.85 and 9.15V. Will I have a problem charging the batteries with a voltage that low?

2nd: Regarding readings between B- and OV and UV, there seems to be a great dosparity between the two measurements, one being 7.4V and another 6 something V. Is it a side effect of possibly discharged batteries?
Also, if it matters, B- with COM and B+ with COM measure with a difference os 0.1V between the two readings.

I haven't tried to connect to the Mini3 yet.

It will still charge, but 8.7V minus the schottky diode drop is low enough that the charge may not complete 100%.

Try going through the full setup procedure including the Mini³ and then go through a full charge cycle.

After some time, I manage to sit down and check this better.
It seems the disparity between the voltages is gone, but when I connect the X1 to the Mini3 and AC power, the charging LED goes red, and very dim. (The Mini3 is working perfectly).
The LED is installed the right way, and there are no cold solders/solder bridges. Every measurement the site recommends has been done and are all good.

I read the other thread where a guy seems to have a similar problem. Could my U1 be fried or something?

The LED would glow red only if there is a fault condition when attempting to charge the batteries. Did you check/reflow the solder joints on χ1's U1? Also, what's the DC output voltage of your AC adapter?

Yes, I reflowed them, no change. And the adapter is 8.70V as stated before.

The DC output voltage of your AC adapter is below the minimum range.

Yes I know, but it's really close. Is 0.3V enough for the batteries to not charge at all?

Yes, the charge manager chip has quite exacting requirements.
