AMB reference β24 power amplifier .fpd files

Postby amb » January 13th, 2016, 12:58 am

Here are the Front Panel Designer files for AMB's reference β24 fully-differential power amplifier, archived in a ZIP file. Photos of my reference build are found that this website. Please read the README.txt file before using these files.

These files are designed to be used for a Hifi2000 Dissipante case, with 10mm-thick panels and handles on both front and rear. Parts used are as specified in the β24 DIY documentation PDF file.

The following files are supplied:
- Front main panel
- Front sub-panel
- Rear main panel
- Rear sub-panel
- Transformer support/reinforcement plate
- Bulk capacitors/bleeder relay bracket
- Acrylic clear top cover with vents
- Heatsink drill template

Note: Check each threaded hole to determine the type of screw intended to be used. If you use different sizes/threads and/or metric screws, then you will need to change the files accordingly. With recent versions of Front Panel Designer, the #6-32 threaded holes became #6-40 for some reason. If you want to use #632 screws, change the thread type to "Unified Coarse" and they will change to #6-32.

What's not included in the files - these pieces are hand-fabricated.:
- The angle brackets added as mounting points for the top acrylic top cover
- The reinforcement aluminum bars on the bottom of the chassis at the bottom cover mounting points
- The bulk capacitor/bleeder relay bracket support/mount

Hi Mr Ti!

I want to make a case for my future Beta24 just as your reference and I have a few questions.
As I understand reference case is based on HiFi2000 Dissipante 04/300B 4U 10mm SILVER (1NPD04300B) case + one extra Front Panel + handles and feets.
Also some parts for case should be made at Front Panel Express with attached files.

There are 3 files with a "Customer provided material" tag:
amb_beta24_front.fpd
amb_beta24_rear.fpd
amb_beta24_heatsink.fpd
Should I send heantinks and panels to Front Panel Express or does ModuShop (HiFi2000) accept fpd files?

All attached fpd files have a thicknes of 4mm and material Aluminum anodized.
Is it correct?
amb_beta24_top.fpd - Material should be Perspex according to readme file.
I guess other parts should have a diferent thicknes.

amb_beta24_capbracket.fpd - Have only mills for caps and thats it. Do you have a file with a holes for bolts like in your reference?

P.S.: Trying to figure out how to make this case.

The heatsinks were tagged that way, so that FPE can drill and tap the mounting holes on them for you. If you have the capability to do this yourself, then you don't need to send that in. I also had FPE cut the holes on the main front and rear panels, that's why those are also tagged as "customer provided".

Modushop cannot read FPD files, as far as I know. But you can check with them to be sure.

The front/rear subpanels are 4mm thick aluminum, and I believe the internal support plates are too. The top cover is acrylic (Perspex).

I made my own support/mount for the internal capacitor bracket, and drilled my own holes for the bolts. You need to do the same, based on the mounts you make, and the specific capacitors and clamps you purchase.

I also added two L-shaped brackets for top cover mounting, fastened to the inside of the front and rear panels. You can see these in the photos but there is no FPD files for them.

Thank you for answers!
Found ModuShop heatsink mount holes drill files in Pieterh's build thread, so less parts to send to FPE.
If ModuShop can mill front and rear panels too that would be the best.
I think maybe I should leave base ModuShop top cover.

I think they can. They did my other case and I gave them fpd files.

Front Panel Designer can export FPD files to DXF.
Not sure how correct it convert, mounting holes look kind of strane in DXF.
Maybe because they are driled and taped.

From my last experience - they can. We've started with DXF and ended up with FDP.

Okey I contacted ModuShop and they do work with *.fpd file format.
So it's triple confirmed. ))
Ordered a case + 10mm panel + drill heatsinks, front and rear panels + feets and one set of handles.
I am on budget for now and also local customs limit per month, will order other parts later.
Let's see how they would make front and rear panels. Can't wait. )

Cool! I look forward to seeing your case and panels, not to mention the build! Consider starting a new a build log thread and document your whole process with photos.
