AC wall adapter instead of EI-30/toroidal transformer

Postby returntosennder » January 20th, 2016, 5:17 pm

Hi, forum

I'm contemplating replacing the USB 5V wall adapter with a σ25 power supply for my γ1+γ2. However, EI-30 transformers seem to be short in supply and I would rather avoid a big bulky power adapter with a toroidal transformer (which is why I'm not going for a σ11). I was wondering whether using a 300mA 9VAC wall adapter (something like http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Triad-Magnetics/WDU9-300/) would be a good idea.

Thanks!

That transformer and a Sigma 25 should fit in a Polycase PS series case.

Figuring out how to mount everything in that case is going to be a bit of a challenge though.

I must have misread the adapter specs. I was going for something like this. Thanks for pointing that out, hagak.

That looks like a pretty good alternative. I'll look into that. Thanks, MisterX.

Did you ever see the Sigma 25 I built in a Box BEX series 2 enclosure?

I always felt the size was manageable even though it had a Talema toroidal transformer...

$22 for that aforementioned transformer though.
