What power connector?

Postby mcfrede » February 1st, 2012, 7:36 am

I have seen people apparently favor 4-pin jacks for their Beta22's, why is that?
It seems to me that for a 2-board (passive ground) amp I could make do with a 2-pin jack running from the Sigma22 to the Beta22?
For a 3-board (active ground) amp I would have thought a 3-pin jack would suffice for V+, 0, V-?
Havent gotten to the balanced one yet...

Is it because people also run an "earth" wire (I don't know this term in english) to the Beta22 chassis?

You need a minimum of 3 wires: for V+, G and V-. I recommend using a 4th wire for the headphone jack sleeve return directly to the σ22 "G", so that the high currents from the headphone does not ride on (and pollute) the above triplet's G wire.
