are you SURE you have input and output jacks right on the d1?

I have been known to get them wrong, myself. and I found this kind of behavior when I had in and output reversed like that.

are you going thru the buffers? I would bypass the buffers (remove the boards and put short wires from in to out) and debug all the digital stuff and then add s22 and a20 buffers as a final step.

if you are having power weakness, it could cause some of the relay combos to not 'turn over' and if it skips some steps, the vol could be wrong for a while until that one or two relays finally turn over by chance. that is very common if the psu is borderline in ability to keep 5v.

note, that the 5v line needs a GOOD half amp or even amp to really do its job.

IR sensor should not be affected. if the lcd stays on and does not dim, the lcd1 is getting enough power. but the relay boards may not.

if the ir is not reliable, maybe IR learn was not done with a good signal or maybe the ir remote is low in batts. try to find a sony compat remote with fresh batts and once that works, you can try alternate remotes; but sony protocol is the easiest to lock onto (I can get it from a room away, oftentimes)

i have the 15va one.

point of noting I am using this psu to power both the lcd duino and the 5v relay for my speaker switching.

How much current does the 5V relay draw?
15VA should be more than enough if the extra relay isn't a current hog.

that relay

also when you say reverse the d1 wiring? how so? Isnt the input on the d1 right over/under the d2? (thats what im connected to).

OK, that relay has a coil resistance of 68 ohms, so by Ohm's Law its coil current would be 74mA. There will be an initial current spike when switch to the "on"-state, but hopefully not enough to cause any problems. Just to make sure, why not disconnect one of the wires to the relay coil and see if it makes a difference?

Btw I hope you wired the two transformer secondaries in parallel, not in series.

from my undersnanding its a dual power supply so it uses 2 dif secondaries for each psu?

OK, the secondaries are not in parallel. They each feed a separate regulator. Are you actually using the other rail? If not, the way it is wired now, you're only getting half of the VA rating of the transformer.

I am using the other rail to power the 5v relay coil for speaker switching.

Is this a problem ?
