Metric standoff and spacers for LCDuino mounting

Postby jtktam » September 30th, 2011, 5:41 am

i had trouble with getting 4-40 standoff in the right lengths, so I switched to using the metric equivalents and I had ordered the following from Digikey to mount the LCD display:

952-1504-ND STANDOFF M/F HEX M3 BRASS 13MM
2036K-ND SPACER RND #4 SCREW .125"L ALUM

I just wanted others to know that this combination will not work 100% to mount the display and lcduino board together onto the FPE front panel. the male end protrudes too much and because the default hole is tapped at 4-40 and the M3 male end does not fit inside this hole, it will prevent the display from seating properly.

A slightly thicker spacer is needed to make it align properly. I ended up not using the spacer i bought and used some RC car aluminum spacers instead, something like:

Tamiya Aluminum Spacer Set 5.5mm

it has a combination of 0.5mm to 3.0mm spacers. I used 0.5mm + 3.0mm and the fit is perfect now.

just in case somebody is running into the same issue as me.
