File attachments - file types

Postby helzerr » July 23rd, 2010, 10:44 pm

The forum software informs me that .ems (eMachineShop) and .fpd (Front Panel Designer) file types are not permitted. It would be convenient to upload those files without having to zip them first.

Does the phpBB (or whichever) forum software even have a provision to allow arbitrary file types be allowed?
Even if not, have you tried "faking it" by changing the extension?

I haven't looked at this software in depth since V2.0 cane out years back.

Edit: You're right, though. That would be useful to enable, should it be easily possible.
I think I'm back.

phpBB3 has a "attachment check" feature to reject "unknown" MIME-types for security, and it's enabled in this forum. It's a simple "on" or "off" setting and I don't see a way to add more MIME-types in the Admin Control Panel without PHP code-hacking. I suggest hosting such files on other sites and post links to it instead.

That's a good idea, and not any more difficult, as far as I can see. If I ever run into this problem in the future, I'll do that.
I think I'm back.
